The Terraplanes are a rhythm & blues powered vehicle that will take you along the entertainment highway to a swinging place where you can jump and shout. They play an irresistible mixture of house rockin blues and uptown swing, R&B, soul, and roots rock-n-roll, influenced by the music of Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Detroit, Texas and the Mississippi Delta. Their performance songlist spans a wide variety of popular covers and originals that are guaranteed to wear a hole in your dancing shoes.
The Terraplanes were formed in 1993 and established themselves as the blues housekeepers of the Ann Arbor Bluestage at the Blind Pig. Their tenure as hosts enabled them to lead the faithful in a serious dues-paying performance fest of R&B based standards and originals that have drawn thousands of believers and hundreds of fabulous guest musicians in a transcendent, trans-cultural celebration of roots based music. They entertain fans at many clubs and festivals in the Southeast Michigan area. They have also been cited for their "bluesability" in the Ann Arbor News, Agenda, Current Magazine, and Renaissance Times.
The name "Terraplane" was borrowed from the song "Terraplane Blues" penned by the great blues legend Robert Johnson in 1936. The song is a lyrical suggestion associating the mischievous behavior of his partner with that of the performance of his car, a Terraplane, which was the name given to a line of aerodynamically designed vehicles produced by the Essex Motor Company in the mid-1930's.
The TERRAPLANES are available for club dates, parties, weddings, and special events. For more information and for bookings, contact the Terraforma Productions office at 734.223.2412.
